Lorient

Lorient

Battered by wind and sea spray since the days of the East Indies Companies in the 17th century, Lorient looks out towards the sea. With a huge Celtic festival taking place each year in August, Lorient Is also therefore a kind of capital for the Celtic diaspora. Badly disfigured by bombing in the Second World War, the town is now characterised by its modernity. Ouibus will take you to discover France’s second largest fishing port which is also a major centre for sailing. With its Cité de la Voile (sailing centre) and plenty of activities on offer whatever the season, Lorient is an active and pleasant seaside town that can be visited all year round. Climb aboard the submarine Flore for a fun tour of the site of the former submarine base. Whether you’re visiting with friends, family, or on a romantic getaway, don’t miss out on the delicious langoustines at the Merville food market: they couldn’t get any fresher than this! In Lorient, you’ll feel like you’re deep in the countryside despite being by the seaside, as the city has green valleys on either side (Scorff and Blavet). Go for a walk along the seafront for a restorative breath of fresh sea air before climbing back on the Ouibus towards home. There’s plenty to do in Lorient if you love the seaside, from fishing to lazing on the fine sand on the île de Groix, paddling in the sea and water sports.
