As you step off the Ouibus in Tours, you’ll feel right away that there’s something attractive about the way of life here. The main city in the Indre-et-Loire region, Tours has everything a city could ever hope for: a fabulous array of architectural heritage, including a château, Museum of Fine Arts, and a Grand Theatre; several universities with 30,000 students who keep the city young and vibrant, and a picturesque city centre. Tours is sometimes referred to as a “Little Paris” on the royal river. Take your time to do your own tour of Tours, on foot or by bike, exploring the ancient street and admiring, wandering slowly around the oldest districts, as far as Place Plumereau for a Touraine wine tasting session in one of the bistros there. Follow the trail of the Loire Valley Châteaux, beginning with the Château of Tours itself. This former royal residence houses the Jeu de paume, a contemporary art centre dedicated to the visual arts. When the sun is out, there’s nothing nicer than relaxing with a drink and enjoying the music at the Tours sur Loire Guinguette. Perfect for a lazy afternoon beside the river in beautiful Tours before heading home by Ouibus.
